"The “Edgefield Shinrin" tree planting project is inspired by the Japanese concept of “Shinrin-yoku” (しんりんよく) (森林浴) or Forest Bathing, where people spend time amidst nature, appreciating its beauty and environment, benefitting our physical and mental well-being.
The purpose of “Edgefield Shinrin (しんりん)” is threefold:
- A haven to promote students' and staff's well-being
- Contributes towards Singapore's sustainability pledge of planting one million trees
- Symbolizes our "Pay-it-forward" values inculcation (前人种树、后人乘凉)as each tree is contributed by a graduating cohort of students
Over time, the Edgefield Shinrin will grow and expand into our mini forest!
