ARTasFEST, the signature biennial student-organized event under our Applied Learning Programme, is a showcase of the future-ready capabilities of our Edgefield students.
Surmounting the challenges from COVID-19, under the innovative conceptualization of our Student Organising Committee, ARTasFEST will be moving entirely online in 2021!
The theme for this special edition of Virtual ARTasFEST is ‘Reshaping Boundaries, Redefining Limits’, which encompasses our students’ spirit of adaptability and resilience to showcase their entrepreneurial mindset and future-readiness in the new normal.
The Virtual ARTasFEST is still a learning platform that ignites the entrepreneurial mindset and future-readiness in our students. In addition, our students also can contribute to the community through partnerships with beneficiaries, deepening their empathy and awareness of social causes.

Student's Quotes
"I play the role of the Overall In-Charge of this year’s ARTasFEST. In this whole experience of organising this Virtual ARTasFEST, I feel that the best experience was when I worked with my fellow In-Charge and VIA Leaders in contacting and raising funds for the 8 beneficiaries. At the start, everything was very uncertain, and to many of us, a virtual experience was not an appealing one. There were many things we were unsure of how to get it done, such as creating a website, writing emails, and setting up campaigns on giving.sg. We had to manage our studies, CCA, and other leadership roles in addition to planning this event. It was not an easy task. However, we did manage to pull through together. I believe that what has made us come this far was the teamwork and belief we have in one another. What we have done is certainly not the best as there are still a lot of areas for improvement, but to us, this event is surely the most meaningful. At the end of the day, I am really grateful for those who were with me, against me, and there for me. To all the Student Organising Committee members, you guys have taught me to be a more compassionate and confident leader. To our teachers that have guided us for the past 7 months, thank you for always being there and giving us inputs for improvements. To everyone else, thank you for supporting us thus far. This year’s ARTasFEST may not be the most fun and exciting one, but I believe that it will be the most meaningful one."
"My experience of being part of the Virtual ARTasFest Planning committee was very enriching. As part of the committee, I helped a little here and there, some in the Values-In-Action(VIA) groups while some in the photo booth. Even though it was tough for all of us, I think the best moment designing this virtual experience is when we managed to triumph through the tough times and going all out. When I see the committee being productive and handling so many things at once, it felt like they were holding the entire event's weight on their shoulders. One of the challenges we faced was when we had to deal with the VIA groups, everyone was struggling in the e-market department. It almost seemed like there was always a new problem everyday, as if the universe is telling us that ARTasFest would not be carried out. But despite the fact that it was unbearable during planning, the team slowly but surely solved the problems one step at a time, until eventually, we managed to set up everything on time. It was such a great relief for everyone. After going through this experience, I would like to personally thank all the teachers and the Overall In-Charge(OIC) of the planning committee, Xin Ying. The teachers have not only given us a myriad of constructive feedback but also guided us on certain things like the photo booth, merchandise, the website and more. Moreover, Xin Ying is definitely one of the members who has done so much for this event! She was practically dealing with ARTasFest every minute every second. Her contributions have definitely not been wasted and have produced good results for herself and everyone else!"
"ARTasFEST has been a truly fruitful experience for me. I’ve been helping with the setting up of some of the groups’ campaigns on giving.sg so they can raise funds for their beneficiaries. It has taught me more about raising awareness through the internet, and that despite it all being virtual, we can still make it meaningful and make a difference. The setting up of the ARtasFEST Experience Studio was fun and engaging. After a few hours of our preparations, I often find myself looking back and feeling accomplished. Whenever I feel tired, I’m always reminded of the reason we’re doing this: to make an impact on society in whichever way possible and to bring something special to our school. I’m grateful for our OICs (overall in charge); Xin Ying and Jin Yew, and the rest of the planning committee. ARTasFEST wouldn’t be what it is without their hard work and dedication. Thank you for giving your all to make this ARtasFEST one to remember. I hope students, teachers and staff alike will be able to make some lasting memories and enjoy ARtasFEST too. :)"
"I am part of the virtual concert committee. My initial role in the planning committee was actually to plan out the script and the story plotting for the concert video. There are a total of ten videos, in line with Edgefield 10 anniversary. The video casts 4 main characters that go through a story, experiencing different performances showcasing our performing art CCAs. That was the main story idea that my friend, Glenda, and I planned. We slowly developed the story plot and created the rough idea for the whole concert. The best moment of designing the virtual experience is that the ideas keep coming as we come together as a committee to discuss. We thought that there would be less content to put into the virtual concert, however as we went into detail and brainstormed we came up with many interesting ideas. There's also a backup plan in case something went wrong, thus we are actually prepared.
There are a few challenges we encountered as firstly before we planned for virtual, we were actually planning for physical thus the COVID-19 situation went worse, we were not expecting it, and thus result in us trying to come up with a whole new plan and preparing for the virtual experience. It was actually quite stressful as we had spent about two months preparing for the physical event, and time was wasted, we had to rush for the virtual one. Secondly, though we were prepared for the virtual concert, as we each had many ideas in mind, it was very hard to decide and choose which idea we wanted. For example, Glenda and I had planned the whole story, even written out the script for our plan. However our idea got rejected twice, some of our ideas were not portrayed clearly to the people in charge due to some miscommunication. Thus we also delayed a few weeks of our time, in the end we had to meet with the whole team to discuss the issues and come to a consensus on the best idea for the concert plot.
I felt that the main problem is time management. And also the lack of communication between our committee members. We couldn't have many physical meetings due to covid situation. Though we had few virtual meetings, it was quite messy. Everyone had to prepare for their examinations as well, thus we lack the time to do many things. We put our trust in our overall in charge and they managed to find a solution to solve most of the things. The overall incharge were able to come up with a story and script, with the help of the teachers, and come up with a new story plan. Of course, with the help of the rest of committee members who make this solution possible we were able to overcome the challenge.
I am thankful for all the committee members, the teachers and the event itself. This year's ARTasFEST is rather different, and we are doing something we didn't try before. It was definitely a challenging approach, I am glad that I had signed up to join the event, and everyone had persevere, tried to solve problems together and overcome many challenges to bring back ARTasFEST. The committee members are very cooperative, we respect each others' views, we come together and solve the problems together. Everyone definitely show the values of teamwork and care. Lastly, I would like to thank the teachers who also gave us the moral support, the confidence that we can make virtual ARTasFEST come true. The teachers provide us with ideas, check in with our well-being and also helped to solve many of our problems. Without everyone's effort, we might not have our ARTasFEST this year, I really wished everyone could enjoy this year's ARTasFEST and look at it with an open mind, to see the light and excitement in Virtual ARTasFEST!"
"Hello everyone, I am Selena Hsu from 2EC. I am one of the members of the e-market planning committee. The best moment is designing the virtual experience, the satisfaction of being able to build a website makes the moment unique especially when you are doing it the first time. The challenge that I face throughout this planning. Planning takes up a lot of time, which causes me to have less to be able to spend on my studies. That worries and stresses me a lot. However, I still did not give up even though it brought me various inconveniences and negative emotions as I wanted to learn and explore more things through this event. I overcame these obstacles by arranging my time. Since there is less time after school, I will need to sacrifice sleep time to have the same amount of study time as before. Sec 3 seniors are the ones that I am really grateful of because of their assistance, I resolve problems easier."
